The name Sing Out Love continues the lineage of our Unitarian Universalist hymnals: from the UUA’s first hymnal, Hymns for the Celebration of Life, to the more familiar Singing the Living Tradition, Singing the Journey, and Las voces del camino, Sing Out Love orients us to this moment in the unfolding story of our faith.

About Sing Out Love

As a virtual hymnal, this resource is shaped and guided by our call to offer:

  • A living collection of song resources.
  • An accessible, equitable, online platform.
  • Grounding in our UU values.
  • An invitation to helps Unitarian Universalism live into our prophetic calling as a joyful, liberatory, and anti-oppressive faith.

Because Sing Out Love is an online resource, it’s also an ever-changing one: New hymns and resources are added every month, expanding the ways we sing our faith. This twenty-first century medium reflects the reality that Unitarian Universalist the@logies have evolved over the course of our history, and so have our practices of Unitarian Universalism.

Special Thanks

Sing Out Love came into being through the time, labor, and energy of many people. We offer special thanks to those who generously provided their gifts and skills.
Robert Buonaspina provided us with an extensive database that jump-started the virtual hymnal in powerful ways.
In preparing the hymnal’s many resources, we received assistance from generous volunteers: David Brown, Sarah Libert, and Kimberly Lilley.
Early in our planning stages, we met with songwriters and composers whose wisdom helped to inform our licensing agreement and other details. We thank Elizabeth Alexander, Clif Hardin, Kiya Heartwood, Pat Humphries and Sandy O (Emma's Revolution), Joe Jencks, Melanie DeMore, Lea Morris, Carrie Newcomer, Elizabeth Norton, Wendy Luella Perkins, Adam Podd, and Amy Carol Webb.
We also give thanks to Rev. Mark Belletini, Chair of the 1993 Hymnbook Resource Commission, for granting us time and wisdom about how his leadership might inform the work of our Sing Out Love Song Selection Team.
Thank you to the 2023–2025 Task Force members who spent two years developing the hymnal: Mary Benard, Camille Hatton, Erika Hewitt, Beverly Horton, Susanne Maziarz, Carey McDonald; and Everett Howe, who joined in Fall 2024.
Finally, we thank the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (AUUMM) for their ongoing support and collaboration.
