Come with Me

Hymn composed by

Penny Blake

Contextual information

“Come with Me” was inspired by the horrific series of mass shootings, especially of schools, that bedevil society. Also by the extreme polarization that has tended to make citizens of the same country act like enemies towards one another. It is a song intended to heal these divisions and give us courage in the face of the long struggle for a better society.

Lyrics

When it’s dark, light a candle for kindness;

When it’s dark, light a candle with love.

When it’s dark, light a candle for me and for you.

Light a candle; its light will see us through.

Come with me, let’s shine the light,

For in our hands lies hope tonight.

Come with me, the path is clear:

A land of hope is very near.

We have spent many days, many hours,

Fearing those that would tear us apart.

Light a candle and counter the hate and the fear,

And with courage we’ll face the day anew.

Come with me, let’s shine the light,

For in our hands lies hope tonight.

Come with me, the path is clear:

A land of peace is very near.

Come with me, let’s shine the light,

For in our hands lies hope tonight.

Come with me, the path is clear:

A land of love is very near.
