Lead Me

Hymn composed by

Heidi Singer

Contextual information

The lyrics in “Lead Me” were adapted from the Hindu Upanishads and have been widely used as a universal prayer for peace. The melody line alone can be used for congregational singing with the provided piano accompaniment or guitar chords. In the included Alternate Harmony version, which should be sung a capella, the melody line can be sung by the congregation (or altos/tenors), with the harmony lines above and below added by a choir. It is recommended that the melody stands alone on the first repetition, the lower harmony is added for the 2nd, and then the upper harmony is added for the 3rd time through.

Lyrics

Lead me. Lead me from death to life.

Lead me. Lead me from falsehood to truth.

Lead me. Lead from despair to hope.

Lead me. Lead me from fear to trust.

Lead me from hate to love.

Lead me from war to peace.

Let peace fill our hearts, our world, our universe
