Still My Soul
Hymn composed by
Charlene GingerichContextual information
From Katie:
I encountered Charlene’s tune through the Mennonite hymnal Voices Together collection process. She submitted a recording of the piano part with no vocals, and I added words for the committee’s consideration. I wanted to create a text that expresses hope and peace in the midst of anxiety or obsessive thoughts in a way that does not offer false promises. Charlene’s tune supports these feelings with unexpected harmonies that still feel warm and soothing.
From Charlene:
The music for this song came to me one morning out of my regular meditation practice. I recorded the music on my phone and tucked it away for years until I came across a request for submissions for music to the Mennonite Hymnal, Voices Together. I am very grateful to Katie Graber for pairing it with such beautiful lyrics!

Lyrics
Still my soul, calm my roaming mind.
Give me peace, may my heart unwind.
Let me stay, your beloved guest.
Take my fear, make my worry rest.
What I hold, let me give to you.
Aid my strength when my storms drive through.
When my thoughts won't let me go,
I'll sing to you: oh, still my soul.
