Holy and Divine

Hymn composed by

Lindasusan V. Ulrich

Contextual information

At General Assembly in 2024, Rev. JeKaren Bell (then Rev. JeKaren Olaoya) offered the final comment before the vote on a business resolution supporting the rights of transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender diverse people. The preceding discussion had been difficult at times, and she wanted to make sure that those groups heard one message unequivocally: “Lean in,” she said. “I love you.” The repetition of this message moved Rev. Lindasusan Ulrich to compose “Holy and Divine” in honor of the transgender/nonbinary community, to which they belong.

Note: The pronouns in the piece can be adapted as needed for the particular context in which the chant is sung (for example, “our lives,” “we love you,” “my life is,” and so on.
