Fountain of Peace

Hymn composed by

Doug Adamz

Contextual information

When I was young, I thought (or at least hoped) that by 2024 a peace song would be quaint, passé, and unnecessary. But it turned out that songs of peace are needed as much as ever. One thing I’ve learned, though, is that if there is to be any hope for peace, it’s got to be homegrown. One has to feel it inside before finding it out in the world. The good news is: We all have a boundless Fountain of Peace in our hearts!

Lyrics

There’s a little fountain of peace in my heart,

in my heart.

There’s a little fountain of peace in my heart.

Water so sweet to taste

may lend my life a little more grace,

make the world a little happier place,

in my heart.

There’s a little fountain of peace in your heart,

in your heart.

There’s a little fountain of peace in your heart.

That little fountain of peace,

its waters shall never cease;

if you tend it, it will increase,

in your heart.

Maybe some day

the little fountain will overflow

and spill its shimmering waters

on this old dusty world we know —

A fountain in my heart,

a stream in my neighborhood,

a river running through this land,

an ocean all around the world.

There’s a little fountain of peace in my heart,

in my heart.

There’s a little fountain of peace in my heart.

Water so sweet to taste

may lend my life a little more grace,

make the world a little happier place,

in my heart.
